Act Now
This is the team Act Now report on the Recession Survival Toolkit Service. Dokumentation
Alga-Energie
Germany as such is not rich in fossil fuels. Its huge demand for energy is fulfilled by import. Thus the problem of fuel is assuming a greater shape. This need of energy can be partially fulfilled by alternative energy sources like bio-fuels which can be obtained from algae. Algae grow best in waste water or sewage - agricultural, animal, or human. A lot of resources around the world are invested for the treatment of waste and sewage. Some of the pollutants in the waste water and sewage are nutrients on which algae thrive. Yet another fact is that the algae that grow in human-sewage tend to have a lot of oil. Combine the above three facts and you get a rather interesting solution: Grow algae in sewage or waste water to clean the medium while producing bio-fuels and removing CO2 from the atmosphere! The team “Alga-Energie” will concentrate on the improvement of the existent waste water treatment processes in novel ways. Further details can be found in the report!!!
With best wishes,
Alga-Energie Team

Arts for Education
Istanbul – the famous Turkish metropolis combining orient and occident has two faces: On the one hand about 3 million people passing every day the istiklal avenue, among them tourists and well-dressed business men and ladies, all enjoying the boutiqes, galleries, restaurants, cafes and theatres offered there. On the other hand neglected, skinny children selling drinks, flowers or tissues and offering shoe-cleaning. Although this contrast is so blatant, many people prefer to ignore it or even do not notice it. Nobody asks why these children are working on the street instead of attending a school. According to Tagesspiegel more than 4000 children in the age between 6 and 15 in Istanbul are forced to work because of financial problems in their families and therefore cannot got to school. Our team “Arts for Education” set itself the target to help these children. The basic idea is to provide the street children art education and teach them painting, playing music instrument, singing and acting. Revenue is generated by organizing concerts, art exhibitions and theatre performances. The profit will be reinvested in the children’s education. Our simple goal is to help these children finding their way (back) to school and gain proper education. By reducing the number of children on the street we hope to reduce criminality as well. If this pilot project goes well, the business model could be easily applied in other cities and countries facing the same problem. Dokumentation
Bridges
"Kids are out of control - They're roaming the streets. They're out late at night. There's an issue about gangs in Britain and an issue about gun crime as well as knife crime." Prime Minister Gordon Brown “Bridges” will celebrate and present positive views of young people in the media plus the proactivity among various youth clubs and the Lancashire council in showing affirmative images of young people.

Children of Earth
The aim of this project is to give children the ability to learn for low cost, and teach them about the global community they inhabit. For the impACT competition, we are implementing "Phase 1": a gallery of artwork and creative pieces by children from across the globe to paint a picture of the world, the eponymous "Children of Earth". The compiled gallery and accompanying text will be offered free of charge to the participating schools, and also sold for a small profit to wider audiences via the Amazon Kindle and CafePress. The proceeds then return to the contributing schools. Dokumentation

Fair Innovation
Fair Innovation – we are four Danish students from Aarhus School of Business, ASB. Through our project we strive to attract attention to the massive amount of energy used every day and put focus on the energy produced in fitness centers. We have engaged the three fitness centres chains SATS, Dansk Fitness and Fitness World in our project. During a focus week, to be held from the 5th October to 11th October we put focus on Danish people's energy consumption. Furthermore, we will run an informative and dynamic film on the TV screens to inform about energy consumption and how these bad habits can be changed e.g. through turning off standby items. Moreover, we have contacted local sponsors who will “transform” the energy measured throughout the focus week into money. It is our intension to donate the money collected to “Shakti”, a department under Grameen Bank, who via micro-financing to the locals in Bangladesh provides equal access to electricity for the rural villagers. In the long term, our ambition is to find the way to use the generated energy in the fitness centers and hence make them self-sustainable with energy supply. We wish that the fitness centres will donate some of the money they save on electricity to a renewable energy project. In this way, hopefully it becomes possible to support a project like “Shakti” without help from sponsors in the future.

Generation Upload
Obtaining an affirmation of the prospective customer is merely the first step that makes your business successful. To ensure that your customer actually buys your product and that the first encounter turns into future sales, many recommendations, and a mutual relationship, should be the ultimate intent of a company and its marketing strategy. Likewise, we do not simply want to consider and focus on today’s achievements and leave a slight impression but we aim to leave a sustainable impact. This initial desire gave birth to our business model “Generation Upload”. Our major purpose is to empower young people to enhance their marketing skills and coevally encourage them to be responsible for raising awareness for social and environmental issues in their everyday life. We want to provide them not only with a fish but also with a rod and line in such a way that they have the necessary skills at hand to be able to create posters, brochures etc. for events, NGO’s (e.g. Caritas Bremen-Nord), private companies (e.g. family run bistros) and hence can run their “own company” in their local school. We want to shape a generation that not only consumes but also produces- Not only adjusts and accepts but doubts and debates- Not solely demands but also provides. We want a generation that is not passive but active –Generation Upload. Don’t be a mere consuming downloader- be a productive uploader! Dokumentation
In medias res
Independent media are a crucial pillar of democratic governments. Children and youngsters often have to consume media without being able to shape them effectively. This has to be changed. This project aims at bringing together people of different, and also difficult, background to discuss about topics that affect primarily German society. By giving young people not only the chance to learn more about the media they are consuming but also letting them produce own press reports, radio segments, or even short movies, they can present their acquired knowledge to the public and gain self-confidence. Innovation Art
Research 4All
Our aim is to share our knowledge with universities and schools in developing countries. More specifically we want to transfer recent discoveries and innovations in various fields that could lead to an improvement of the daily life in the developing countries. This will be achieved by creating a magazine and pdf-documents with articles about scientists and their current research works. Spread the Word
Spread the Word is a Marketing and PR Agency for social businesses. Through developing innovative Marketing solutions we not only intend to increase the sales potential, we also aim to raise awareness for the people producing the products. Our first project is a cooperation with the Ministry of Justice of Baden-Württemberg, Germany. We will develop a Marketing strategy for a certain group of products produced in German jails. By establishing informative marketing tools, at the same time, we will inform the customers about the backgrounds of (youth) delinquency. Furthermore, as a Social Entrepreneur it is our goal not only to broach the issue of social grievances but also to combat them actively by supporting – in this specific case – social reintegration programs for juvenile delinquents.

STUBU (living 2.0)
Concerned about housing rates and bad living conditions in our home town, we decided to form an organisation to support students by planning, financing, and managing houses owned by the tenants themselves. Thus we aim to lowering rates and giving members greater control over the quality of the housing they occupied. In order to gain experience and a reference as well, we startet our project, called "STUBU I". It is intended to function as a model for later projects. We will show that the concept works and thus convince investors, and students to become tenants. STUBU I will have twelve appartement units, which share kitchen, living room, and one bathroom per two units. As already mentioned above, the tenants will become owners of the premises they live in. By this means, they will (a) save money by lowering rents (b) gain property by paying mortgage instead of rent, and (c) being able to actively form and scale the quality and circumstances of living by overtaking responsibilty for the group and the property.
